Update from Nigeria
Christ’s Ambassadors Student Outreach (CASOR) is growing, especially with our emphasis on vision 2010 which is aimed at reaching all the remaining unreached campuses by the end of 2010. We had a total of about 80 campus groups in 2001. Today, we have more than 200 groups. Our major focus remains on targeting specific areas where students need to hear about Christ. The Lord is certainly granting us fruit.
We have had two technical training sessions on Contemporary Challenges in Campus Ministries. About 60 campus ministry workers have gone through this training. We are believing God for more dynamic opportunities of additional training abroad. Our contemporaries in IFES are taking staff training very seriously, and we need stronger training for our CASOR team. This year we are having a national Re-Union Conference titled, "Home Coming 2008." It is scheduled for December 3-7, 2008. We hope the conference will draw all our senior friends closer so that we can strongly tackle the perennial challenge of financing CASOR ministries in Nigeria. The Conference will be held at the nation's Capital city, Abuja.
We covet your prayers for the publishing of "God's Generals." It's in the final stage and will soon be off the press. Expect greater blessings from the Lord of the harvest this great year. Stay blessed. An Open Door—Nairobi Gen X
After praying and seeking the counsel of leadership, a church targeting the the Nairobi Urban Youth Culture (Generation X) was begun in June 2002. Nairobi is an urban city with a population between 3 and 5 million people. A recent study indicates there are more than a million unchurched in their late teens to early thirties.
"I Choose Life" Project
This project began as an HIV/AIDS training program and grown into one with branches on six university campuses. Twice each year the ICL trainers conduct an intensive peer education training that equips students to reach out to their friends.
The Journey
The Journey is a movement among Kenyan students that provides a relevant, Jesus-centered message packaged in a way that resonates with students. The Friday night experience is infiltrating the University of Nairobi and beginning to change the culture. Posters created by the media team draw students from all over the campus, inviting them to join the community. Everyone is invited, regardless of where they are on their journey to explore a relationship with Christ. A student revolution is building in Kenya!
